Areas of application
Why we build 110 kV substations
A 110 kV substation is the grid connection point at which your project will be connected to the high-voltage grid.
All under one roof
Turnkey, with clear lines of responsibility
As the main contractor, we take responsibility for your substation throughout the entire service chain. You have a single point of contact for deadlines, quality and costs, rather than having to coordinate numerous individual trades. We incorporate project-specific requirements and your network operator’s specifications into our tried-and-tested standard process in a targeted manner.
We will assist you with your planning application and will coordinate the technical designs with the network operator on an ongoing basis.
A tried-and-tested standard
A tried-and-tested approach that reduces time and risk
Every project is based on a well-established, standardised plant design that has proven its worth in a large number of successfully completed substations. This approach enables short planning and delivery times, a consistently high standard of workmanship and efficient project management. Since 2002, WT Energiesysteme has successfully completed over 250 projects.
Grid connection
Grid connection at a glance
Connection to the transmission grid is one of the key tasks involved in the construction of a substation. As an experienced main contractor, we are proficient in all standard grid connection methods and integrate them safely and efficiently into your substation project – from low-voltage connections, through connections via auxiliary and harp masts and 110 kV cable connections, to busbar connections in existing substations.
With our own pipeline construction team and qualified specialist staff, we carry out key aspects of the pipeline connection work ourselves. This ensures short lines of communication, a consistently high standard of workmanship and maximum reliability in meeting deadlines. We select the appropriate connection concept in close consultation with the network operator, taking into account the technical and local constraints.
Classification
When a 110 kV connection is advisable
110 kV is the high-voltage level, situated between medium voltage (10 to 30 kV) and extra-high voltage (220 and 380 kV). Smaller projects often feed into the medium-voltage grid; for higher power levels, the route usually involves a dedicated substation at the 110 kV level. Where exactly the boundary lies depends on the project and the grid operator, who determines the grid connection point. Planning, construction and operation on the 110 kV grid are governed by the technical connection regulation VDE-AR-N 4120 and the grid operator’s supplementary conditions. The installation is validated by means of a grid compatibility assessment and an installation certificate.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions about 110 kV substations
A substation connects different voltage levels, transforms electrical energy to the required voltage level and enables its safe distribution. 110 kV substations form part of the high-voltage grid and serve, amongst other things, as grid connection points for wind farms, photovoltaic systems, battery storage facilities and large industrial enterprises.
