Well-organised, on time, reliable

Permit management for grid connection

A successful grid connection does not begin on site, but during the planning permission process. As an experienced main contractor for substations and grid connections in the 10 to 380 kV range, WT Energiesysteme GmbH handles the entire approval process for connecting your facilities and generation plants to the electricity grid – proactively, in a structured manner and in close coordination with all stakeholders. In this way, we lay the foundations for a smooth project workflow and a robust timetable right through to turnkey commissioning.

Everything under one roof

Permit management as an integral part of your grid connection project

Approval procedures for utility connections are complex and involve numerous stakeholders – from network operators and regulatory authorities to landowners. We coordinate these procedures holistically and liaise with all relevant stakeholders right from the early stages of the project. This ensures that approval-related requirements do not become a risk, but are instead an integral part of robust project planning from the outset. We prepare the grid connection application with great care to ensure that you can connect your plant and reliably feed the planned output in kW into the grid. Our range of services in permit management includes, in particular:

Coordination

all necessary authorisation procedures for the pipeline connection, as well as the application for connection submitted to the relevant network operator

Early consultation

with network operators, public authorities and landowners

Preparation and compilation

all application documents

Technical support

throughout the entire authorisation process

Early identification

requirements relevant to the approval process and their integration into project planning

Keep track of your appointments

Timetable and adherence to deadlines in the grid connection project

In renewable energy projects in particular, the timetable is crucial to commercial success: delays in grid connection can push back the entire commissioning date of a wind farm or solar park. Whether and when your generation plants will be connected to the grid depends largely on the outcome of the grid compatibility assessment and the available capacity at the grid connection point. That is why we always consider permit management within the context of the overall schedule and coordinate procedural steps, planning and construction with one another.

A realistic, transparent timetable gives you planning certainty – and highlights critical milestones at an early stage. Key benefits for your project:

Timetable

Realistic timetables with clearly defined milestones and buffer periods

Proactive management

Early identification and management of time-critical process steps

Dealing with complexity

Close integration of planning permission, design and construction

Communication

Transparent communication of the project’s progress to all stakeholders

On-time delivery

from the grid connection right through to commissioning – including clarification of the technical connection requirements, the necessary structural works and the connection costs

Over 20 years’ experience

Your partner for permit management for grid connections

As a medium-sized company based in Riesa and Dresden, WT Energiesysteme GmbH has been constructing substations and grid connections for energy suppliers, wind and solar farms, hydrogen plants and the industrial sector for over 20 years. Having worked on a wide variety of grid connection projects, we are familiar with the typical regulatory hurdles – and know how to avoid them. Acting as the link between plant operators and grid operators, we ensure that your planned feed-in capacity is seamlessly integrated into the electricity grid. From the feasibility study through the planning application documents right up to commissioning, you’ll have just one point of contact with us: from the greenfield site right through to the handover. In this way, we combine permit management, planning and construction into a seamless process that reliably guides your project to success.

Cooperation

Better to sort it out early than to put it off until later

We coordinate all necessary procedures at an early stage with network operators, authorities, landowners and other stakeholders. What matters here is: early involvement and scoping with the authorities. Complete, consistent documentation. Correct timing for seasonal surveys. Connection point and technical connection conditions agreed with the network operator. Rights of way and pipeline rights agreed with landowners at an early stage.

Step by step

From a request for a grid connection to a confirmation of connection

Before approval is granted, the process involves the network operator. They set out the framework for the grid connection authorisation.

Application for connection to the grid

You must notify the relevant network operator of your plans.

Grid compatibility assessment

The network operator checks the connection point and network capacity and sets out the technical conditions for connection.

Connection approval & contract

The scope, costs and a timetable for implementation will be agreed upon in a binding manner.

Implementation

Planning permission, construction and grid connection of the power line are all interlinked.

The critical path

If you miss the mapping season, you’ll soon lose a year

It is rarely the procedure itself that determines the timetable, but rather environmental and species protection: surveys are tied to vegetation and breeding seasons and cannot be rushed. That is why we clarify these issues first and plan surveys, mitigation measures and application documentation in line with the approval timetable, rather than after the event. This ensures that the critical path remains manageable and your deadline can be planned.

It would be irresponsible to quote a standard timeframe, as this depends on the type of procedure, the route, environmental and species protection measures, and land acquisition. As a guide: a notification procedure is quicker than planning approval, which in turn is quicker than planning authorisation. For new construction sections, lead times of several years are realistic. The decisive factor for the timetable is not so much the duration of the procedure itself as an early, comprehensive and well-coordinated start.
