Substations for project developers: Your partner for design and construction

As a project developer for wind, solar, hydrogen or battery storage projects, you are under pressure to meet deadlines and stay within budget – and your project stands or falls on having a reliable grid connection. This is exactly where WT Energiesysteme GmbH comes in: we design, build and modernise substations ranging from 10 to 380 kV and connect your project to the grid on schedule. From the greenfield stage right through to handover, you receive everything from a single source – with just one point of contact. For over 20 years, we have been implementing grid connections for renewable energy and have already successfully commissioned over 250 substations.

Your space, our technology

From land to development-ready site

You secure sites and develop them – we take care of the technical side. Based on your land parcels, we assess the site, the grid connection point and grid compatibility, evaluate the technical design and provide you with reliable information on timelines and costs. This transforms a plot of land into a project that can be brought to the stage where construction can begin.

Your benefit

Why project developers choose WT Energiesysteme

Whether it’s a wind farm, solar farm, electrolysis plant or large-scale battery storage facility: grid connection is the critical milestone of your project. Delays at the substation jeopardise funding deadlines, feed-in guarantees and your entire profitability analysis. As a specialist substation contractor, we take full responsibility for this – so that you can concentrate on developing your project. We think in terms of project life cycles, not individual trades, and support you from the initial feasibility study right through to stable grid operation.

Full service

Everything under one roof – from the greenfield site to the handover of the keys

You receive the full range of services for your substation from a single source: feasibility study, preparation and submission of planning application documents, structural, primary and secondary design, procurement and installation of all components, programming and commissioning. Instead of having to coordinate multiple trades, you have just one point of contact – with clearly defined responsibilities, short decision-making processes and a binding schedule. This reduces interface risks and significantly speeds up your project.

Our sectors

Experience across every sector of the energy transition

As one of the leading providers in the renewable energy sector, we understand the specific requirements of your industry – and those of the relevant grid operators.

Wind energy

We ensure that your plant feeds electricity into the grid without disruption and on schedule – whether onshore or for complex grid connections up to 380 kV.

Solar energy

To feed your PV output into the high-voltage grid, we supply tried-and-tested, scalable substation solutions to ensure your solar farm is connected to the grid on schedule.

Hydrogen

With turnkey substation solutions, we reliably integrate your electrolyser into the electricity grid – the foundation for green hydrogen production.

Battery energy storage system (BESS)

We develop, plan and build large-scale battery storage systems from 5 MW upwards – with a focus on 20 to 100 MW/2h – including a grid connection point for balancing energy, energy trading and the integration of renewable energy sources.

Our process

From the feasibility study to grid operation: our process

Five phases, one point of contact – this is how we manage your substation, from the initial assessment right through to ongoing operations.

01

Feasibility study

We assess the site, the grid connection point and the technical framework.

02

Planning application and design

We draw up and submit the planning application documents and take care of the entire planning process.

03

Procurement and assembly

We supply and install all primary and secondary equipment.

04

In-house production

Switchgear, protection, control and telecontrol cabinets are manufactured in our in-house production facilities – and are approved by all German network operators.

05

Commissioning and After-sales Service

Once testing and programming are complete, we hand over a system that is ready for operation and support you with maintenance and modernisation.

Frequently asked questions from project developers

On request, we can manage the entire substation project from a single source – from the feasibility study through to the planning permission application, design and construction, right through to commissioning and after-sales support. You will have just one point of contact and a binding schedule, which significantly reduces interface risks and the effort required for coordination. Of course, we also carry out individual service packages – such as secondary equipment or control cabinet manufacturing – if you only require specific parts of the project.
