Halenbeck Rohlsdorf Solar Park Successfully Connected to the Grid

With the UW Halenbeck Rohlsdorf 1+2, WT Energiesysteme has successfully commissioned its 250th substation. The project is part of the approximately 230 MWp Halenbeck-Rohlsdorf solar park, whose development and implementation were coordinated by pvx energy GmbH. The solar park is one of the largest solar projects in Germany and combines renewable energy generation with a special focus on biodiversity.

For WT Energiesysteme, this commissioning marks a special milestone, as this project represents the 250th substation completed since the company was founded. At the same time, the commissioning comes just ahead of WT Energiesysteme’s 25th anniversary.

One of Germany's largest solar farms

The substation is part of the Halenbeck Rohlsdorf solar park in Brandenburg.

The photovoltaic plant has a capacity of approximately 230 MWp, making it one of the largest solar projects in Germany. However, the focus is not solely on generating renewable energy. The project takes a unique approach that combines energy generation with the protection of nature and biodiversity.

The planning area covers approximately 200 hectares. About 90 hectares are designated for solar installations, storage facilities, and other technical infrastructure. At least 110 hectares, on the other hand, are set aside for quiet zones, biodiversity conservation, beekeeping, forested areas, bike and hiking trails, and related research. A three-row hedge approximately ten kilometers long surrounds the solar park and creates additional habitat. Furthermore, no fertilizers or pesticides are used on the land within the solar park.

Strong Partners

Promotion of Biodiversity

Denis Sherlizyn, Managing Director of pvx energy GmbH:

“With the Halenbeck-Rohlsdorf Solar Park, we have completed a project that goes far beyond the mere generation of renewable energy. From the very beginning, our goal was to combine a high-performance photovoltaic project of this scale with a sustainable land-use plan and the promotion of biodiversity. The successful commissioning of the two substations marks an important milestone for the overall project. We are pleased to have achieved this together with WT Energiesysteme, and we would like to congratulate WT on the completion of its 250th substation.”

For the colleagues at WT Energiesysteme, too, this unique aspect of the project was evident time and again during its implementation. They were able to regularly observe various wild animals among the technical facilities and the expansive green spaces.

Special Moments

High-Performance Grid Connection for Renewable Energy

At the substation, the generator-side operating voltage of 33 kV is transformed to the grid-side voltage of 110 kV. An ABB ZX0.2 is used as the medium-voltage switchgear. The reliable team at F+W handled the electrical installation during the project.

A highlight of the commissioning process was the successful activation of the two power transformers within just one hour.

Various challenges had to be overcome during the course of the project leading up to its commissioning. These included, among other things, the delivery of the two power transformers under winter conditions. Snow and black ice made access to the project site difficult.

An Impressive Achievement

250 Substations: A Milestone

With the Halenbeck-Rohlsdorf 1+2 substation, WT Energiesysteme has reached a significant milestone in its corporate history. The 250 substations it has completed represent 25 years of experience, technical development, and growing expertise in energy infrastructure.

Jeanette, a project controller at WT Energiesysteme, has been following this development for nine years.

“Seeing WT reach the 250-substation milestone is both impressive and motivating. I’m proud to be part of this journey. It shows how consistently the company has grown, how much expertise has been built up, and how closely the team has bonded over the years.”

During this time, Jeanette has witnessed WT’s evolution from a small company into a large medium-sized business. New departments and specialized teams have been established, processes have been streamlined, and projects have become increasingly complex. At the same time, the family-like atmosphere has remained an important part of the company culture for her.

The 250th substation thus exemplifies the development of WT Energiesysteme: 25 years of experience, growing technical expertise, and a team that is helping to shape the energy infrastructure of the future.

250 substations. 25 years of WT Energiesysteme. A special milestone we’re proud of.
