Ahausen Substation: WT Energiesysteme commissions the world’s first F-gas-free Siemens 8DAB 40 blue GIS

WT Energiesysteme, acting as the main contractor, planned, built and commissioned the Ahausen substation. It connects a neighbouring 64 MWp solar park to the public electricity grid – and is also the world’s first substation for renewable energy to utilise the F-gas-free Siemens 8DAB 40 blue GIS. The project partners are ENERPARC, Siemens and the municipality of Ahausen.

The transformer is installed on a concrete foundation with an oil containment basin. High-voltage switchgear, a single overhead line gantry and overhead power lines are visible in the background.

The Ahausen Project

What has been built in Ahausen: a turnkey substation for solar power

Innovation only realises its full value when it is put into practice under real-world conditions. With the commissioning of the Ahausen substation, WT Energiesysteme, together with ENERPARC and Siemens, has taken precisely this step and reached an important milestone.

As the main contractor, WT Energiesysteme was responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of the substation. It provides the basis for reliably feeding electricity from the neighbouring 64 MWp solar park into the public grid in future.

World premiere of a new technology

World premiere: The first F-gas-free 30 kV GIS in a substation for renewable energy

This project is of particular significance to WT Energiesysteme: Ahausen marks the world’s first installation of the Siemens 8DAB 40 blue GIS in a substation for renewable energy.

This is the first F-gas-free gas-insulated switchgear for the 30 kV level. It uses Clean Air as the insulating medium and combines sustainable switchgear technology with intelligent digitalisation. Thanks to integrated sensor technology and condition monitoring, the switchgear provides valuable practical insights for the energy infrastructure of tomorrow.

Commitment to innovation

Why WT Energiesysteme tests innovations at an early stage under real-world conditions

At WT Energiesysteme, the courage to adopt technology at an early stage is second nature. Rather than waiting until a technology has become widely established, the company puts promising solutions into practical use whilst they are still at an early stage of development. Practical operation serves as a testing ground: what proves its worth in the field sharpens technical expertise and shapes the approach to future projects. For customers, this brings tangible benefits – they benefit from the latest technical developments whilst also helping to further develop the energy infrastructure of tomorrow in a practical way.

We are the first customer in the world to be using the new 8DAB 40 blue GIS in a substation for renewable energy. We do not wait until innovations have become the market standard before putting them into practice. We aim to test new technologies at an early stage under real-world conditions and apply the experience gained directly to future projects. Our customers benefit from this through a technological edge and the assurance that they are relying on solutions that have been tried and tested in practice.
