What does EPC actually mean?
From grid connection to commissioning: What EPC stands for and why the coordination of all project phases is crucial for substations.

When a new substation is mentioned, many people first think of transformers, switchgear or overhead lines.
But the actual project work already begins before work starts on site. Grid connections are planned, permits are prepared, technical concepts are developed and numerous parties are involved.
This is exactly what the term EPC stands for: holistic project execution. Engineering, Procurement and Construction describes a model in which planning, procurement and construction are closely interconnected. An EPC partner accompanies a project from the initial idea through to successful commissioning, while keeping an eye on all project phases.
Especially in complex 380 kV projects, this interaction is crucial. A substation does not consist of individual disciplines, but of many interconnected processes.
Henriko Peplow explains:
“A successful substation project is not created through individual services. What matters is that all project phases work together optimally.”
