Science Meets Practice

What happens when academic knowledge meets project experience? At HTW Dresden, the focus was on digitalization, safety technology, and energy infrastructure.

On 9 June 2026, our Managing Director, Marek Reschke, was a guest speaker at the FSR Electrical Engineering Department at HTW Dresden. As part of an academic seminar, he gave a presentation on the topic: “The transformation of protection and control systems in substations: a system comparison and future prospects”

The focus was on the digitalisation of substations, modern communication structures and the question of how protection and control technology can meet the increasing demands on the safety, availability and flexibility of the energy infrastructure.

Using a current real-world project as an example, the presentation demonstrated how traditional and decentralised system architectures differ and what opportunities digital substations offer for the energy transition.

The exchange between academia and industry is of particular importance to us. The energy transition requires not only a high-performance grid infrastructure, but also qualified specialists who understand new technologies, develop them further and put them into practice.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Meyer, Chair of Renewable Electrical Energy Systems / Energy Storage at HTW Dresden, describes the collaboration as follows:

“I must say, the topics that WT always brings to the table are highly challenging and also absolutely up to date.”

Marek Reschke also emphasises the importance of this exchange:

“It is important to us to pass on our insights to young students and to share our experience with them.”

For many years, the collaboration with HTW Dresden has included work placements, coursework, and diploma and Master’s theses. We are therefore all the more delighted to be further expanding this partnership through joint specialist events.

Many thanks to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Meyer, HTW Dresden and all participants for this exciting exchange between academia and industry.
