⚡ 380 kV Compact with Henriko Peplow
When many people think of a substation, they picture large transformers, overhead lines and switchgear bays.
But modern substations are much more than electrical installations.
They are highly digitalized systems.
In addition to conventional primary technology, digital protection and control technology, fiber optic communication and intelligent sensors now play a central role. Using standardized communication protocols such as IEC 61850, devices exchange information in real time and ensure that the entire system works together reliably.
Cyber security is also becoming increasingly important. As digitalization increases, so do the possibilities, but also the requirements for protecting critical infrastructure.
Henriko Peplow explains:
“A modern substation is no longer just electrical engineering. It is a highly digitalized overall system in which protection technology, control technology and communication must work together reliably.”
Digital substations create the basis for greater security of supply, more efficient operation and condition based maintenance. They are therefore an important building block for the energy infrastructure of the future.
