Innovation reveals its value under real-world conditions
New technology must prove itself in practice. At the Ahausen substation, WT is gaining experience with a new F-gas-free switchgear system.

With the commissioning of the Ahausen substation, we have reached an important milestone together with ENERPARC AG and Siemens.
As general contractor, WT Energiesysteme was responsible for the planning, construction and commissioning of the substation. It creates the basis for safely feeding the electricity from the adjacent 64 MWp solar park into the public power grid in the future.
For us, however, this project has another special significance.
In Ahausen, WT Energiesysteme is the first customer worldwide to use the Siemens 8DAB 40 blue GIS in a substation for renewable energies. The first F gas free gas insulated switchgear for the 30 kV level is based on Clean Air as the insulating medium and combines sustainable switchgear technology with intelligent digitalization. Thanks to integrated sensors and condition monitoring, it provides valuable practical insights for the energy infrastructure of tomorrow.
Our aim is not to use innovations only once they have become the market standard. We want to test new technologies at an early stage under real conditions and directly incorporate the experience gained into future projects. In this way, we create real added value for our customers and actively contribute to shaping the further development of modern energy infrastructure.
Dietmar Tietz, Managing Director of WT Energiesysteme GmbH:
“Being the first customer worldwide to use the new 8DAB 40 blue GIS in a substation for renewable energies is important to us. Innovations do not only come into use once they have become the market standard. We want to test new technologies at an early stage under real conditions and directly incorporate the experience gained into future projects. Our customers benefit from this through a technological advantage and the security of relying on solutions that have been proven in practice.”
A heartfelt thank you to ENERPARC, Siemens, the municipality of Ahausen and everyone involved in the project for the trusting cooperation.
Together, we are creating the energy infrastructure that safely integrates renewable energy into the power grid.
